INFLUENCE OF CONTENT COMMUNITIES AND COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF BUSINESS EDUCATION STUDENTS IN PUBLIC TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN DELTA STATE

 

Abstract

The study examined the influence of content communities and collaborative projects on academic
performance of Business Education Students in public tertiary institutions in Delta State. Two
research questions guided the study and two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The
quasi experimental design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised 361 final
year Business Education Students in the 2023/2024 academic session from 5 tertiary institutions in
Delta State. Two intact classes were randomly assigned to experimental group and control group
respectively. The instrument for data collection was Principles of Business Education Achievement
Test (PBEAT).” The instrument was validated by three experts in education. The reliability of the
instrument was ascertained using Spearman Rank Order Correlation, resulting in a coefficient of
0.84. Mean and standard deviation was used to analyze data for the study. The findings of the study
revealed that content communities and collaborative projects influences the academic performance
of Business Education Students in public tertiary institutions in Delta State. Based on these findings,
the researcher recommended among others that Business Educators and curriculum designers of
business education programme in tertiary institutions should incorporate content communities and
collaborative projects systematically into the course structures of the business education
programme.
