TEACHING OF PRACTICAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN BUSINESS EDUCATION

ABSTRACT
This study examined teaching of practical entrepreneurship in Business Education: a panacea for new
skills and business development in Anambra State. Two research questions were formed to guide the
study. The population of the study comprised of eighty-three business educators (83) from Nwafor
Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN) and Federal College of Education Technical, Umunze
(FCETU). No sampling technique was employed because the population was small. This study used a
descriptive survey design. A self-structured questionnaire was the instrument used to gather all the
needed information. The instrument was subjected to face and content validity. A test retest method of
validation was done and reliability coefficient of 0.92 was obtained. After administration of the
instrument on the respondents, only 59 were retrieved and analysed using mean rating and standard
deviation. The data presentation was done in order of research questions. The findings were that
teaching practical entrepreneurship to a high extent leads to skill development and job creation by
exposing and empowering the students with diverse experiences that could help them to start new
businesses in the future. Also, so many factors such as cost and time involved in teaching practical
entrepreneurship as well as inadequate technology and facility needed for the practical to a very high
extent hinder teaching of practical entrepreneurship in Business Education. On the basis of the
findings, it was concluded that the current hardship in the country can only improve when many
students, youths and not just business education students are exposed to different skills via practical
entrepreneurship in and out of school. Hence, the researcher recommends that teaching of practical
entrepreneurship should be improved by providing needed equipment and modern office technologies
for diverse skills development. Also, lecturers should ensure that they utilize the time allocated for
practical in the courses taught to the students well instead of just teaching the students only the theory
parts.

ROLE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) IN MANAGEMENT OF SAFETY AND SECURITY OF BUSINESS ORGANIZATION IN CURRENT DISPENSATION

 

Abstract

This paper discussed the role of information and Communication Technology (ICT) in management of
safety and security of business organization in this current dispensation. Information and
Communication Technologies are those technologies that provide access to information through
telecommunications. The advent of information and communication technology has ushered in new
ways of doing things in almost all spheres of life. The business environment is not left out in this
information and communication technology drive as it is by far the most important and impressive
means by which business organizations remain competitive in the dynamic environment. This paper
discussed the meaning of ICT, its basic elements, types of ICT in business organization and its
importance to business organization, safety and security management and the role of ICT in safety and
security management. The paper also highlighted that ICT allow employers and employees to become
better aware of their business surroundings and the dangers they may encounter and ICT in business
organization help to monitor the safety and security of the business environment and the safety of the
workers with the workplace. Based on the foregoing, it is suggested among others that Government
should pay more attention to the funding of ICT so that it can be of greater help as tools in monitoring
security system.

INFLUENCE OF CONTENT COMMUNITIES AND COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF BUSINESS EDUCATION STUDENTS IN PUBLIC TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN DELTA STATE

 

Abstract

The study examined the influence of content communities and collaborative projects on academic
performance of Business Education Students in public tertiary institutions in Delta State. Two
research questions guided the study and two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The
quasi experimental design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised 361 final
year Business Education Students in the 2023/2024 academic session from 5 tertiary institutions in
Delta State. Two intact classes were randomly assigned to experimental group and control group
respectively. The instrument for data collection was Principles of Business Education Achievement
Test (PBEAT).” The instrument was validated by three experts in education. The reliability of the
instrument was ascertained using Spearman Rank Order Correlation, resulting in a coefficient of
0.84. Mean and standard deviation was used to analyze data for the study. The findings of the study
revealed that content communities and collaborative projects influences the academic performance
of Business Education Students in public tertiary institutions in Delta State. Based on these findings,
the researcher recommended among others that Business Educators and curriculum designers of
business education programme in tertiary institutions should incorporate content communities and
collaborative projects systematically into the course structures of the business education
programme.

BUSINESS EDUCATORS’ PERCEIVED STRATEGIES FOR THE ACQUISITION OF EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS AMONG BUSINESS EDUCATION STUDENTS IN PUBLIC TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN SOUTH-SOUTH GEOPOLITICAL ZONE, NIGERIA

 

Abstract

This study focused on Business Educators’ Perceived Strategies for the Acquisition of
Employability Competencies among Business Education Students in Public Tertiary Institutions in
South-South Geopolitical Zone of Nigeria. Two specific objectives and corresponding research
questions as well as one hypothesis guided the study. The study employed descriptive survey
research design. The population of the study comprised five hundred and twenty-one (521)
Business Educators drawn from Public Tertiary Institutions in South-South Geopolitical Zone of
Nigeria. The entire population was studied. An instrument titled: “Business Educators’ Perceived
Strategies for the Acquisition of Employability Competencies among Business Education Students
(BEPSAECBEG)” was designed and used to elicit information from the respondents. The
instrument was validated by three experts, one from Measurement and Evaluation option of
Science Education Department, two from Business Education Department all in Ebonyi State
University, Abakaliki. The entire items of the instrument yielded a reliability co-efficient of 0.94.
Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while t-test were used to
test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The result revealed that institutional management
and business education resource exhibition enhances student acquisition of employability skills in
Business Education. While the hypothesis indicates that there is significant difference in the mean
ratings of business educators on the perceived strategies in business education in public tertiary
institutions in South-South Geopolitical Zone of Nigeria based on gender. Based on the findings the
study recommended that business education resources exhibition should be integrated and made to
form part of the curriculum exercise and implementation in Business Education.

EMPOWERING YOUTHS THROUGH ENTREPRENEURSHIP TRAINING PROGRAMME: A SINE QUANON FOR REDUCTION OF UNEMPLOYMENT

 

 

Abstract
The progress of a nation is a function of the level of the resourcefulness of the people which to a great
extent, relates to the level of quality of the training and purposeful development of education in that
nation. Such progress or development could only occur when an individual in the society is gainfully
employed and per capital income is enhanced. This could only be possible when government
educational policies are geared towards a functional education that can lead to job creation and also
self-reliance. Entrepreneurship training is a means through which government could attain such
development in the society. Therefore, this paper examines empowering youths through
entrepreneurship training programmes as sine quanon for reduction of unemployment. This paper
discussed the concepts of entrepreneurship, youth empowerment and youth unemployment.
Entrepreneurship training programme for youth empowerment and challenges of entrepreneurship
training and youth empowerment were also discussed in this paper. It was concluded that, the
development of entrepreneurship training will go a long way in creating employment, give young people
the opportunity to develop their enterprising skills, empowering the young to be job creators and not job
seekers and by providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to raise their output; income and
wealth. The writer recommends amongst others, that, funding of entrepreneurship training programme
should be taken seriously by the federal government, state government and individuals who care. This
can be achieved through increase in the budgetary allocation to educational sector

entrepreneurship on sustainable development but to position entrepreneurship as a pivotal
catalyst for sustainable development. It underscores the potential for entrepreneurs to be
architects of a future where economic prosperity seamlessly aligns with environmental
sustainability and social well-being. Through this lens, entrepreneurship is not merely a player in
the sustainable development narrative but a transformative force, capable of steering societies
towards a holistic and resilient equilibrium. In conclusion, this paper highlights
entrepreneurship as a transformative force in shaping sustainable development. Entrepreneurs,
portrayed as innovators, not only adapt to change but actively drive it, fostering creativity in
society. The paper however suggests that government develop inclusive policies for equitable
access to resources, fostering social entrepreneurship and empowering marginalized groups,
prioritize education and skill development for underprivileged communities, invest in workforce
education for technological advancements, ensuring responsible innovation with ethical
guidelines, establish financial support mechanisms for entrepreneurs, mentorship programs, and
public-private partnerships to improve infrastructure,. Also invest in education and vocational
training aligned with market demands, and encourage innovation and fair competition through
effective regulatory frameworks.
